15 October 2001
Minneapolis, MN

EnviroScrub Technologies Corporation (“EnviroScrub”) has named Robert D. Edwards, Executive Vice President of ALLETE, Inc., (NYSE:ALE) and President of Minnesota Power, an ALLETE subsidiary, to its Board of Directors effective 15 October 2001. ALLETE is a diversified multi-services company based in Duluth, Minnesota, with businesses in 43 states and nine Canadian provinces. Its workforce of nearly 14,000 employees is active in four business segments: automotive services, water services, investments, and energy services.

Minnesota Power, an ALLETE subsidiary, serves 144,000 customers in Minnesota and Wisconsin with low cost electricity. It supplies wholesale electric power to sixteen municipal systems and, through MPEX, markets power across the Midwest. About half the electricity sold by Minnesota Power goes to large industrial customers, including taconite producers, pulp and paper mills, and pipeline companies. ALLETE also owns BNI Coal, which operates a lignite mine in North Dakota.

EnviroScrub, a privately-held deployment-stage company, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota licenses its dry PahlmanTM Process technology, which has proven to be exceptionally effective in removing NOx and/or SOx gases from natural gas- and coal- fired power plant emissions. EnviroScrub plans to compete in the multi-billion dollar U.S. emissions-reduction-technology (“ERT”) market beginning in 2002.
