Enviroscrub Selected for Arsenic Removal Technology Demonstration in New Mexico
17 March, 2005
Minneapolis, Minnesota

EnviroScrub’s proprietary and patent pending sorbent has been selected by Washington University, Saint Louis, Missouri, in conjunction with the Waste-management Education and Research Consortium (WERC) to develop and demonstrate a cost-effective and energy-efficient treatment technology to remove arsenic from drinking water in rural New Mexico.

WERC is a partnership that leverages environmental expertise from throughout New Mexico. The consortium is comprised of the New Mexico State University, University of New Mexico, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Dine College, Sandia National Laboratories, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Washington University will assemble, test, and demonstrate the system for arsenic removal using arsenic-laden water from a pre-selected site in rural New Mexico. Data collected from this testing will be used to generate a proposed solution, which will include a detailed cost analysis for a system capable of serving rural isolated communities in New Mexico that are less than 200 user families.

The EPA is mandating a reduction in arsenic levels from the current 50 parts per billion (ppb) to 10 ppb by January, 2006. Current treatment technologies are not cost effective for smaller municipalities and rural communities of New Mexico, thus the need for demonstrating leading edge technologies such as EnviroScrub’s BH-A sorbent. Enviroscrub intends to use this demonstration to further commercialize its water filtration technology with the expectation of sales in 2005.

EnviroScrub, a privately-held deployment-stage company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, plans to sell its metal oxide sorbents into the global industrial and household water filtration markets in 2005. EnviroScrub also licenses its patented and proprietary dry Pahlman™ Process NOX / SOX / Hg / PM 2.5 / HCl / H2S scrubbing technology to power generation and industrial plants worldwide. EnviroScrub plans to compete in the multi-billion dollar U.S. Emissions Reduction Technology market with its first commercial-scale projects in 2005.
